Please
read the following information and guidelines carefully
before submitting an application/entry for the International Voices of Children
Festival!

Application/Entry
Information and Guidelines |
|
|

Participation as a performer, writer, composer, and/or exhibitor at the International Voices for Children Festival is by invitation.
-
Each
applicant is required to submit specific samples of their art (for
details please refer to your respective category) that will permit the
Organizers to assess their quality.
-
Application
Fee:
- Individuals: US$ 10 / applicant per category
- Ensembles: US$ 10 / applicant per category
up to a maximum of US$ 50 / ensemble per category.
-
Applicants
have a choice to compete for award ribbons (these will be presented at the final ceremony);
those who choose to attend non-competitively shall receive a certificate of participation.

The
list of invitees will be announced by April 10, 2007.
WCC will provide letters of invitation and support for selected
artists to present, if applicable, with their US visa applications.

Each
invitee can be accompanied by one parent and his/her teacher or
director.
-
There is no charge for
festival participation. However, everyone invited is responsible for making her/his own arrangements and paying for travel, hotel, meals, and other related expenses.

Invitees who can come early for four days of pre-Festival rehearsals on June 19 - 22 may apply for one of the festival ensembles (chorus, dance, drumming, and theater). Festival ensembles will perform during the Festival
(June 23 -25).

Students selected for one of the Festival Ensembles will pay an additional US$
100 each to help defray the cost of Pre-Festival Rehearsals.
-
Those
who cannot come early for pre-Festival ensemble rehearsals
will be given opportunities to perform during the Festival (June 23 - 25).

Exhibitions of winning entries in crafts, visual/fine arts, and creative writing,
as well as performances for circus arts and performing arts winners will be scheduled in the Washington, DC area.
-
Festival ensembles, and all competition winners will perform together in the Final Festival Concert.
Tickets for the Awards Ceremony will be available at a discount for
participants.
Requirements
and Deadline

Students who are 10 to 18 years old at the time of the Festival may apply.
-
All Crafts, Creative Writing, Music Compositions and Visual/Fine Arts entries must be original works and must relate to themes explored in the Peace Collage conversations and collage making.

Each entry must be the work of only one child or teen or ensemble; Exception: Songs with lyrics (one composer and one lyricist)
-
Entries in the Performing Arts categories must be new recordings and must be provided on CD or Cassette Tape (music applicants), VHS or DVD for other performers. VHS and DVDs must be formatted to work on US equipment.

Circus and Performing Artists |
|
Submit live, unedited, un-enhanced recordings (CD, Cassette, VHS, DVD) of repertoire/material/routines that you wish to perform at the Festival with this application. Musicians must submit CD or Cassette with this application - additional VHS, or DVD of a performance is optional, but preferred. |

Festival
Ensemble Applicants |
|
Submit live, unedited, un-enhanced recordings (CD, Cassette, VHS, DVD) of repertoire/material of your choice (three contrasting selections) that demonstrates your artistic abilities. Musicians must submit CD or Cassette; VHS or DVD optional, but preferred. Recordings must be submitted with this application. |

Music Composition |
|
Submit two copies of legible manuscripts of your composition, and if possible, a recording of the composition with this application. Electronic compositions should be sent on CDs. |
|
Creative Writing |
|
Submit two copies of your neatly typed or printed manuscript with this application. If you do not have access to equipment, please print neatly. Poets or Essayists who wish to present their work in performances should additionally submit an unedited, un-enhanced live, recorded reading of the poem, essay, etc. |

Crafts/Visual/Fine Artists |
|

All applicants must also send
the following information:

One to two page narrative that includes biographical information and the reasons why you feel you
should be invited to perform or exhibit at the International Vices for Children Festival. The information should focus on your training and experience.

Three letters of recommendation from teachers or professionals in your field who are familiar with your creative/artistic work

If available, copies of contest awards, newspaper reviews, magazine articles, etc.
-
A recent photo of student or ensemble.
-
Any other information/items that support the application.

Peace Collage Instructions |
|
All
Applicants - You will have opportunities to discuss the topics listed below with your colleagues at the Festival. Please take time to work through this process and make some collages before you come to Washington, DC.
Creative Writing, Music Composition, and Visual /Fine Arts
Applicants - To help you prepare your creative work for submission to the International Voices for Children Festival, we ask you to do the following: |

1)
Get together with friends and family and discuss your
choice of the following topics/themes
-
What are some new paths to peace, understanding, and compassion?
-
What messages of hope, peace, love, and joy can I/we bring to the world through my/our creative work?
-
How do we build peace?
-
Is it possible to give up "being right" in difficult
circumstances?
-
How can we work together to create beauty? What is beauty?
-
How can we build mutual understanding and respect?
-
How can we sow the seeds of a more peaceful world tomorrow?
-
Are we are individually and/or collectively responsible for working together to make the world a better place?

How can we set aside our differences for the greater good?

What is the "greater good?"

How can we individually and collectively help transform individual and community attitudes, and expand our capacities for friendship, love, compassion, tolerance, generosity, respect, and peaceful reconciliation?

2) Make collages on the themes/topics that speak to
you. Any kind of materials may be used for the
collages. Those who have little or no visual arts
training might like to use magazine pictures if available
(no words in the pictures), glue, and paper or poster
board. In a collage, pictures or other supplies overlap
to create one vision/picture.
3) If you are submitting an original entry for creative
writing, music composition and visual/fine arts
competitions, use/reflect the collage theme closest
to your heart for your entry.
4) Submit summary of conversations and one collage
with your IVCF entry. |
